In a danger zone

Well, I've been avoiding the scale lately. Not because I think I've been doing well, but because I know things have been going downhill quickly. I was thinking I'd been gaining about a pound a week since November, and that's almost dead on. I'm up 16 pounds and almost back to my starting weight. When I saw this at the doctor's office, I was ready to cry.

So....what am I going to do about it? Well, I'm not a doctor and I don't have a prescription pad, so I can't start treating myself....so adjusting the thyroid is out of the question, though I am researching doctors on that issue. I guess I could stop taking Avandia, the gaining started about the same time as the Avandia did so there could be a correlation there even though the doctor says there isn't. I just don't know that treating myself is the best option. I feel like I'm going to get to my start weight and keep climbing, and since that was the highest weight I've ever been, I certainly don't want that. So I've been thinking, what can I do that's drastic enough to get the scale heading down. I guess I could stop eating, but we know that doesn't last, and adds to some of the resistance I've already experienced. So, I decided to go back to Atkins. Not as a permanent change, but to see if I can kickstart myself in the right direction again. I am thinking a week or 2 on Induction, just to see if that does anything. If I can head in the right direction, then I'd transition slowly back to NS. I prefer NS because I think it's just a more realistic way to live, not the prepackaged part of it, but the good carbs part. If that doesn't work, I'll consider a couple of days of Atkins "fat fast." That's one that will be very difficult for me to live on. But, let's not put the cart before the horse....let's go for one week of Induction and see what happens.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something will reverse the upward slope.

Good luck figure out what is going on. I was on Atkins for almost a half year once and lost about 40 pounds. But as you know it is sometimes hard to stick with. I was lucky at the time there was a low-carb grocery store about 6 miles away at the time (it has since gone out of business). So I was able to get low-carb bread, taco shells, candy, dinners, etc. etc there. That really helped. Anyway good luck. I'll be anxious to see how you do.

Wow, all that low-carb stuff is probably helpful in a way, but it probably allows more carbs to sneak up on you too. I think I'd have to be super careful if I had all that at my fingertips. Last time I did it, our Wal-mart had a good selection, but nowadays it's not as much in style so they don't have much.

I know you don't have diabetes and that's not why you take Avandia, but it is prescribed to control blood glucose levels from time to time. I know when Tim's levels are where they are supposed to be, he gains weight like crazy. I'm guessing the Avandia may be contributing to the problem, but like you, I'm not a doctor. Check with your pharmacist. They know a LOT about drugs and how they act in our bodies.

Good luck with the Atkins. I know how frustrated you've been. I hope it clicks.
