3 down, 3 to go

Justin has been gone about 1/2 his time now. It seems like it's been forever this time. I think that's just because the family is still in a state of disarray. Mom keeps wanting to write thank you notes, and then changes when we should do it. Laura is on vacation all week, so she's just been gone. I'm still trying to fill in the gaps, be there to help mom with things, and still take care of my own stuff.

I went to look at a Hyundai Elantra last night. They have a 2005 that might come in at a payment I can afford, but I have to see if my credit gets approved first. It's red, which I'm not fond of, but beggars can't be choosers as they say. It's got great safety ratings, and a great warranty, so I'm not worried about that kind of thing. The financing going through scares me to death. They have a used 2005 on the lot with over 20,000 miles on it, for less money, but it would actually cost more when you figure it wouldn't have the rebate, loyalty credit, and the 10 year warranty. I don't know what they were thinking with that.

I went to the doctor this morning. Nothing really new to report there except that while my thyroid labs are technically normal, they aren't as high as you'd expect given my dose of meds, so he's pushing them up. If that doesn't work, I'm going to recommend again that we switch to Armour. He wasn't very receptive to that before, but it never hurts to try. Also, he thinks I should be following the South Beach diet. I think NS is very similar, but if anyone wants to weigh in with their opinion, I'd be glad to hear them (or read them as the case may be).

I don't know much about the SB diet so can't comment on that one, sorry. I do quite a bit about Hyundais, though. I've had two Elantras (loved them) and a Sante Fe (which I wish I'd never gotten rid of). I put almost 80,000 miles on that Sante Fe in two years. Quite a few trips between IL and FL pushed the miles up and we just like to drive! Hope it all works out for you in the finance department.

Thanks Karon! I have to say the Elantra I had kept me and my sister safe even though it was totalled. I was hit in it a total of 3 times actually. It was just that this last one was a doozy!

Goodness, Valerie...when it rains it just pours, doesn't it!

I think it is great you miss your son so much! So many mothers seem glad that they are relieved of 'motherly duties' for a while. I always missed mine when they went to their Dad's on weekends. And I had friends that thought I was crazy. Justin will be back home before you know it.

My brother and SIL went on the SB diet and loved it. That is the extent of my knowledge of the SB diet.

Good luck in finding a new car...seems pretty crappy you have to do it...the person that caused the wreck should be made to find the replacement that YOU approve of! Seems fair to me!

I hope your Mom is doing better...as I am hoping for you and yours. It's a rough time...especially having to deal with the holidays. Keep the faith, sister! You will be stronger for it.

You remain in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi Valerie It sounds to me as if Dr. might have concern with the soy but I think following NS weather it be the food or just the guide lines I think is fine it is a way of life moderation, fruits, vegie, etc Gosh a new car in the horizon how nice I hope you can get the best deal possible I sure hope the new cars did not come from the Katrina flood site be sure to find out where the new car comes from and they do not try to sell a new car that was flooded at one time they mask them well these days so I have heard. I hope you are doing well and the new year is getting closer I wish all the best for you to come :)

Sue-Thanks for your concern. Mom had a really bad night on Wed. It's what we call "Hooters night" when if Dad was home everyone went to Hooters because they had "all you can eat wings" (Did I mention most of my family struggles with weight? lol)

Rachelle-that's one thing I keep forgetting to ask him about, I need to know if with my thyroid problem he thinks I should avoid soy. My thyroid is way out of whack, my temp is still quite low.

Paul-I tried it before too, and I was trying to remember and thinking it was similar to NS. I just didn't know what others thought. I do need to ask my doctor how he feels about the thyroid/soy connection. You're right about the venting post about kids, I should try to keep that in mind!
